Summary: Peter Grant is a constable in London's Metropolitan Police Service - and a trainee wizard. He deals with nests of vampires in Purley, the warring god and goddess of the Thames, and digging up graves in Covent Garden - all routine. But there's something festering at the heart of the city, a malicious vengeful spirit that is using ordinary Londoners to act out a drama of violence and despair.
