Summary: When the old woman brought my bowl this morning she didn't fumble as much as she does usual. She was in and out through that door like she couldn't move fast enough. And when the lock clicked after her I found something she'd left. A knife. And not one for spreading butter but a sharp one for slitting throats. Living in a world where the sun has disappeared behind the clouds for good, Snow has a loving father and a warm home. Her stepmother, however, dislikes her. When Snow's father dies, her stepmother orders a hunter to take her into the woods and kill her. Snow makes her escape, a tiny child in a vast, cold world with only her wits and an orphaned bear cub to help her. She finds shelter, for a while, among a rough group of miners, but a warm and welcoming home eludes her. Life is no fairy tale for Snow. Her path will take her high into the mountains, over misty passes, desolate gorges and raging rivers, as well as to the city, where she will make her case for the return of what is hers in all but name. Inspired by the fairy tale, Snow is set in a post-climate change world where all survival depends on the goodwill of others. (Publisher)
